Capped on 73 occasions for the Nigeria between 1993 and 2006, Okocha is considered one of the greatest African players of all time.

The midfielder represented major clubs in Europe, such as Paris Saint-Germain, starred for Bolton Wanderers in the Premier League and was a part of the Super Eagles' 1994 Africa Cup of Nations-winning side.

The country Okocha has served as an esteemed ambassador for is going through a difficult moment, however, after Nigeria drew with both Lesotho and Zimbabwe in their 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers in November.

Pressure has piled on current head coach Jose Peseiro, who has been linked with Egyptian giants Zamalek in recent weeks, while Mosimane's name has been mentioned among those who could potentially replace the Portuguese tactician.

Speaking in a recent interview, Okocha praised the South African's "track record" and said his experience would "add great value" to Nigerian football.

"I think Pitso, without any doubt, is one of the best African coaches. His track record is there for everyone to see," he told Prime Sports with Mahlatse Mphahlele.

"I think if we can get a coach like that, he would add great value to our football. A coach that has got a lot of experience here is in our home in Africa. I don't know how true that is, but of course a coach like that is most welcome."

The retired player also addressed the Super Eagles' struggles.

"I don't think we are where we are supposed to be. I always believed we are one of the best in Africa, but of course, recently, we have not had the results to match that status.

"We might have lost a bit of that respect and fear we had during our era. This is what we are trying to bring back."
