Mamelodi Sundowns assistant coach Manqoba Mngqithi shocked many when he revealed that the Brazilians missed out on Vinicius Jr – but it appears he is not the only player who slipped through the grasp of Sundowns, as Pitso Mosimane revealed how they missed out on a Liverpool star.

Sundowns' scouting network has spread far and wide, particularly in South America where they have roped in players from Brazil, Chile, Uruguay, and Bolivia amongst other countries.
The likes of Lucas Ribeiro, Ricardo Nascimento, Marcello Allende, Gaston Sirino are among the South American imports roped in by Sundowns in recent years but they could have had a high-profile signing in Luis Diaz of Liverpool according to former coach Pitso Mosimane.
"I found all the South Americans in South America. I was going there, breaking them [away from their clubs], bringing them to Sundowns. I did it myself, don't listen to anybody.
"If you want to do something, you'll make time.
"You know Luis Diaz, the guy who is playing for Liverpool on the left? I nearly bought him for Sundowns. I'm not lying! He was in Colombia," Mosimane told Metro FM's DJ Sabby in an interview.
Back in February last year, Mngqithi revealed the reason for them missing out on Diaz.
"We were on top of Diaz. Unfortunately, we delayed one or two days, and he signed for Porto. We've looked at a lot of players. I don't want to lie to you," he told journalists at a press conference.
