Al Ahly's unbeaten start to the Premier League season came to an end after suffering a 1-0 loss to Al Masry on Saturday night.

Result: Al Masry 1-0 Al Ahly

Date: 09 April 2022

Venue: Borg El Arab Stadium

Mosimane made five changes to the side that narrowly beat Al Ittihad the last time out, as he brought back his regulars, Ali Maaloul, Mohamed Abdelmonem, Amr El Soleya, Mohamed Magdi Kafsha and Mohamed Sherif, while Percy Tau retained his place after a missed penalty.

The Red Devils started brightly but they went behind in the eigth minute from a set-piece after Haythem Ayouni found the bottom corner with a header from IIies Jelassi's cross.

Al Ahly struggled to break down Al Masry after that and the game only opened up in the latter phase of the first as Hassan Ali had a chance double the visitors' lead with a strike in the box that forced a save out of goalkeeper Mohamed El Shenawy.

Mosimane made a tactical change at half-time, as striker Hossam Hassan replaced Magdi Kafsha but it took the Red Devils up until the 66th minute to have a strike at goal as Tau was denied by goalkeeper Ahmed Massoud with a strike towards the bottom corner.

Hussein El Shahat also replaced Luis Miquissone for fresh legs in midfield for Al Ahly two minutes later and Sherif came close to equalising just after that with a strike in the box that was kept out by Massoud in the bottom corner.

Al Ahly were pressurising Al Masry in the closing stages and not giving them chances on counter-attacks and Abdelkader came close to snatching the equaliser in the last minute with a header in the box missed narrowly wide after a cross by El Shahat.

The hosts still had time for a couple of chances but lacked the finishing touches, as they succumbed to their first defeat and remained at the top of the log by a virtue of a superior goal difference over second-placed Zamalek, although Mosimane's men have a game in hand.
