The Sudan Premier League and all football activities within the east African nation have ceased as of April 2023, as a consequence of the unrest brought on by the civil war in the country.

Teams from the nation's top flight have thus requested to play in the first divisions of neighbouring countries, and Sudan's biggest side, Al Hilal, has now been successful in this regard.

They will be competing in the Tanzania Mainland Premier League as of the 2024/25 campaign.

The news was made official by the Tanzania Football Federation (TFF), who have insisted that Hilal's inclusion will have a positive impact on their domestic game.

"We believe Al Hilal's participation will significantly benefit our league," Clifford Mario Ndimbo, the TFF's information officer, as per The Citizen.

"They are a big club with an excellent reputation, and their presence will generate excitement and provide a real test for our teams.

"Additionally, increased media coverage is expected to boost revenue for Tanzanian clubs."

Al Hilal will, however, not have the opportunity to compete for the league title or its continental positions as games involving Florent Ibenge's men will be treated like exhibition matches and results relating to the team will have no bearing on log standings.
