A titanic clash between the aforementioned sides ensued at the FNB Stadium before the international break, as the Buccaneers claimed a crucial 2-1 victory over Masandawana in their bid to keep their hopes for a league championship alive.

However, once club action resumes, their tussle for South African top-flight honours will be momentarily put on hold as CAF Champions League duties take priority.

African football's governing body recently announced details relating to the logistics for each of their quarterfinal clashes in the Champions League and the Confederation Cup. It has been confirmed that Miguel Cardoso's Sundowns will play the first leg of their last-eight clash against Esperance de Tunis at home on 1 April 2025, while Jose Riveiro's Pirates will have to travel to face MC Algiers in Algeria on the same date.

While Sundowns have had to play their last four domestic matches at the Lucas Masterpieces Moripe Stadium, the first leg clash against the Tunisian juggernauts will be played at Loftus Versfeld. The second legs of three of the four quarterfinals will take place the following week, on 8 April 2025. Ka Bo Yellow will head to Tunis to play the decisive second leg on that date.

The only quarterfinal set to be played on 9 April is that of Ezikamagebhula, who will face their Algerian counterparts at the Orlando Stadium.

The two sides could face off in the competition's final as they have been drawn on opposite sides of the tournament, but both will first have to navigate tricky encounters against North African sides.
