Al Ahly Boss In More 'Hot Water' After CAFSC Loss

Al Ahly chiefs are reportedly angry with manager Marcel Koller for the surprise decision he took after they suffered defeat to bitter rivals Zamalek in the CAF Super Cup.

This past weekend, the Red Devils suffered defeat in the CAF competition curtain-raiser for a second successive season.

The Club of the Century took the lead in the encounter through Wessam Abou Ali in the 44th minute, and led the tie until Nasser Mansi came off the bench and equalised almost immediately upon his introduction to the game in the 77th minute, and Jose Gomes' side would go on to win 4-3 on penalties.

It was the second season in a row Ahly lost in the Super Cup, after losing to USM Alger last campaign, and also the second time the record African champions lost to Zamalek in the competition.

The defeat has not gone down well with the chiefs at El Tetsh and, according to Al Bawabh News, the situation has been made even worse by Koller's decision to go on vacation to his native Switzerland immediately after the loss.

The club's planning committee is understood to have been expecting a report as to how the loss to their great rivals happened, but they are yet to receive it, and it is reported that the 63-year-old decided to take more holiday time after initially being granted 20 days off at the end of the Egyptian Premier League season.

The same report claims that club chairman Mahmoud El Khatib is now waiting for Koller to return so they can discuss the repercussions of the loss to Gomes' charges, and that the loss has also prompted the Egyptian giants to re-enter the transfer market.

Egyptian clubs can still register new players until 25 October, and it is believed the former Austria national team manager will present players he feels they should go after before that date. If they are unsuccessful in this regard, they will look to the January transfer window to reinforce the squad.
