In October last year, the inaugural iteration of the AFL kicked off, as some of the biggest teams identified by CAF took part in the $4 million (R74.6 million) competition.

Mamelodi Sundowns were crowned the tournament's first-ever winners and the Tshwane based side will be looking to add more continental silverware this season in the CAF Champions League.

This weekend, the AFL champions will meet Young Africans in the second leg of their CAFCL quarter-final at Loftus Versfeld.

Yanga president, Hersi Said, will be present for that match, but while he was in South Africa, the Tanzanian executive also wore his hat as the chairperson of the African Club Association.

Speaking to the South African Football Journalists' Association on Wednesday, Said touched on Masandawana's suitability for the tournament and also emphasised the need for the Glamour Boys and the Buccaneers to participate in the next AFL.

"I heard the information, that this time around, instead of eight they will have 24 clubs," Said claimed, as per SABC Sport.

"That's a big number and that can be able to pull the biggest teams in Africa. Young Africans is one of them  with no doubt, we will have to be there because of our performance and fan base, it will amplify the entire tournament.

"In South African, Mamelodi Sundowns  talking about the levels they deserve to be there. But you cannot run away from Kaizer and Orlando. They are the two teams with the biggest fan base in South Africa as well.
