Haller: My Feelings On Bafana Bafana

Haller: My Feelings On Bafana Bafana

Flying haller Sébastien Haller of Ivory Coast.

In an exclusive QA with PUMA, Ivory Coast and Borussia Dortmund star Sebastien Haller has revealed his impression of Bafana Bafana.

The Dortmund striker featured against South Africa in an international friendly back in October 2023. The match finished 1-1,  as Themba Zwane gave Bafana the lead in the ninth minute before Haller scored the equaliser in the 66th minute.

The French-born centre-forward is one of the Africa Cup of Nations' leading marksman but an injury ruled him out of his country's opening match of the tournament against Guinea-Bissau, of which they won 2-0.

In an exclusive QA with global sportwear company, PUMA, the 29-year-old revealed his thoughts on Hugo Broos' side, whilst also touching on why he chose to represent Cote d'Ivore instead of his country of birth France.

Your impressions of the South African team you played against on 17 October 2023?

"I really liked the intentions from the team, they were brave and positive to each other. Interesting game to prepare the Africa Nations Cup. Still a bit disappointed with the draw lol."

Why did you choose to represent Ivory Coast?

"I was at a moment in my life and career where I wanted and needed a change. I had this choice in my mind since the beginning but the coach came to me with some ideas and visions and I decided to make this choice, the best one!"

What do you enjoy about African football?

"Definitely the vibe, the commitment, and the atmosphere from fans! A victory means the world for the country so we get an extra boost and there is more pressure as well."

The strengths of the Ivory Coast team?

"We're a complete team in all segments of the game and aware of our weaknesses. I see a constant improvement since last year.

Ivory Coast's chances of winning the TotalEnergies CAF Africa Cup of Nations?

"I don't like to speak about numbers but we 're seen as one the favourites in the competition and of course in terms of potential we can win but this is not only about that and we know it."

What does it take to be an elite striker?

"Commitment and dedication, you need to invest our time, energy and thoughts but like every investments, you see the results only later and patience is one of the keys.
