Not only did host nation Ivory Coast claim their third AFCON title on home soil on Sunday, but the Ivorian Football Federation (FIF) has earned a staggering $7 million (R133 million) after CAF increased the prize money for the winners.

At the start of last month, the organisation, led by president Patrice Motsepe, said the champions would earn 40% more than the winners of the previous edition.

Losing finalists Nigeria have earned $4 million (R76 million) for their efforts in the Ivory Coast, according to CAF's website, while South Africa and DR Congo's football federations will be paid $2.5 million (R47.5 million) after being knocked out at the semi-final stage.

Furthermore, losing quarter-finalists Angola, Guinea, Mali and Morocco's federations have claimed $1.3 million (R24.7 million) in prize money.

Goals from Franck Kessie and Sebastien Haller completed a stunning comeback for the Elephants in Abidjan on Sunday night, after William Troost-Ekong had put the Super Eagles in front seven minutes before the break.
