Nigeria Star: Beating Bafana On Penalties Is Crazy

A Nigeria star says it was crazy to beat a "quality" team like Bafana Bafana on penalties as they push for Africa Cup of Nations glory.

The Super Eagles advanced to the final for the first time since the 2013 tournament after defeating Hugo Broos' charges on Wednesday night.

The South Africans had beaten Cape Verde on penalties in the previous round, with goalkeeper Ronwen Williams saving spot-kicks.

Bassey, who plays for Fulham in England, gave Bafana credit for being a well organised team and praised his side's ability to dig deep.

"This was a hard one. I think we showed real character," defender Calvin Bassey told BBC Sport Africa.

"It just shows we could do the dirty work. We just had to keep believing in ourselves.

"[South Africa were] a well-organised team, a quality team. To outdo them on penalties, it's crazy.

"Kudos to all the boys that stood up and took [a penalty]. It's not easy to go out there with the pressure and they kept calm."
