It took a nine-match winning streak for Mamelodi Sundowns towards the end of last season to knock Kaizer Chiefs off their perch at the top of the table - ultimately doing just enough to win the Absa Premiership trophy.
As it stands, Chiefs are 15 points ahead of Downs at the top of the table, but can the Brazilians replicate last season’s title charge?
For one, coach Pitso Mosimane and his players now know what it takes to win the league title in this fashion. They will not ignore the fact that it will be a tough task playing catch up, however, the experience they have in that regard can only do them more good than harm.
Also, with Downs having such a big squad, Mosimane and his technical staff will have no problems with strength in numbers. This would mean that Downs would be expected to have a fresher team to that of Chiefs as the season winds down.
In terms of form, Sundowns have been on the rise towards the end of of last year, winning two from the last three outings in the league. In what was a mini pre-season in January, Sundowns were rampant in friendly matches - winning convincingly, as well as doing so with a little style.
Things look to be on the up for Masandawana this year, do you think we could close the gap on Chiefs like we did last season?
