As a passionate Kaizer Chiefs fan for my entire life, when I read that our club wants to sign Bongani Ndulula I nearly fell out of my chair. Is he really Amakhosi quality?
In a sense, Ndulula has similar characteristics as a striker to Sthembiso Ngcobo. ‘Mapholoba’ arguably didn’t deliver because he was involved little in the build up play, and didn’t score enough goals to justify his place.
In addition, Chiefs are signing a player like Ndulula, who has never hit double figures in the PSL. He spent years on the sidelines at Orlando Pirates and never really produced the goods.
It appears on the surface of things that the striker is someone who is rated highly, and has the potential qualities of a great striker. Yet, in his career he hasn’t really delivered on this promise - save for his performances for the national U23s, where he is tied as the leading scorer with Siyabonga Nomvethe.
His recent performances for Bafana Bafana were perhaps also limp and unspectacular. Chiefs also only just signed David Zulu – a 28-year-old who is largely untested playing for a big club at the highest level. Shouldn’t we be signing proven performers like we did with Knowledge Musona for example?
So, the signing of Ndulula just seems a risk all around. Reliable sources close to Soccer Laduma have disclosed he is very likely to sign for the club in 2015/16. It’s left me scratching my head because he just looks the wrong fit for Chiefs.
What do you think of his potential arrival at Naturena?
