According to Globo, the son of the famed Ballon d'Or winner, Joao Mendes, has signed his first professional contract with the English outfit.

The teenager looks set to move to Turf Moor after his contract with the Barcelona youth academy came to an end at the end of June, and he is believed to have penned a two-year deal with the Clarets.

The Rio de Janeiro native started his youth career out in his native Brazil with Cruzeiro, before making the transition to La Masia last year.

Having failed to graduate to the Blaugrana first team, Mendes will now seemingly begin his professional career in Scott Parker's side, with it believed he could be available for the EFL Championship side from next week.

The 19-year-old would be joining a side that has hit ground running in the 2024/25 season. Foster and company opened the new campaign with an emphatic 4-1 victory over Luton Town, with the South African assisting the final goal in the victory at Kenilworth Road.
