Thabo Qalinge was in red hot form for Mpumalanga Black Aces last season and prompted both Orlando Pirates and Kaizer Chiefs to sit up and take note. He opted to join Pirates with the hope of becoming the next star in a long line of top wingers at Mayfair.
There could be one player standing the way of him reaching his full potential at the club though, and that is the mercurial Thabo Rakhale. Ever since Rakhale emerged on the scene as a Bucs player, we have seen less of Qalinge.
Has Jomo hindered Section 10’s progress at the club?
Before Rakhale, Qalinge was used as an impact player off the bench, as he found competition for a place in the starting line-up rather difficult. Now with Rakhale being used as a super-sub and doing ever so well at it, I feel that role has been given to Rakhale - much to the disappointment of Qalinge.
Section 10 could be struggling as a result of not adapting well to the Bucs' style of play and may need time. He has the talent, and being signed by Pirates is already testament to that.
What Qalinge needs to do now is to cultivate the discipline and professionalism to modify his game, so as to fit in the team. Rakhale, to some extent, has done that by making the most of his cameo appearances off the bench this season. By doing this, he has becoming a rather popular figure, not only within the team… but amongst the fans as well.
Both players are yet to reach their full potential; however, it can be said that with Rakhale stealing the shine, Qalinge needs to up his game.
Do you agree?
