There has been a major update on Orlando Pirates' wonderkid Relebohile Mofokeng and the enquiries made from Spanish giants Barcelona, the Siya crew can reveal.

As confirmed to this publication, Barcelona's B team showed interest in having a look at the Pirates and Bafana Bafana player, with a view to sign him and in the hope that he will follow many famous names in world football who went the same route before playing for top teams in world football.

Former AmaZulu FC coach Pablo Franco Martin, who previously also worked for Real Madrid as an assistant coach, confirmed to Soccer Laduma in this week's paper that he had been contacted by a colleague at Barcelona B enquiring about Rele.

The Spanish tactician went on to say that he gave a good recommendation about the 20-year-old who has been exciting football fans week in and week out across the country with his amazing skills and rare talent.

Since the news broke, various high-profile outlets in Spain have covered the Mofokeng-Barcelona links.

The Siya crew has done some more digging, and through Martin, among other people contacted, more details have emerged.

"He (the Barcelona B coach) contacted me to ask about him (Mofokeng). According to him, someone offered Mofokeng to the club, and the scouting department sent his (videos) and (those of) some other African wingers to the coach to watch them," said Martin, speaking exclusively to the Siya crew.

"He asked me about him because they watched some highlights, and they liked him, but they didn't have enough time to scout him properly, and as I knew him, he asked me directly. That it was when I told him that he is very good and that I would sign him for Barcelona B without any doubt," concluded Martin.
