In light of being nearly a decade without winning a trophy, Kaizer Chiefs have reportedly also explored traditional avenues in an attempt to change their fortunes.

Insiders close to the club have indicated that certain members of the club believe their difficulties extend beyond football and have sought guidance from various sangomas to address their trophy drought.

A source close to the club added that Chiefs have engaged with numerous sangomas, yet success remains elusive.

"You know, no team can say they don't do these sangoma things. All the teams - they use them. Whether it's direct muti or some kind of prayers or whatever they do but there are rituals clubs do to help their teams win games. And Chiefs have been to almost all the famous ones (sangomas) that even other teams don't know but things are not working. You think they are happy to be where they are? No. No team as big as Chiefs could be happy to go nine years or seasons without an official trophy in the league. That's why they have tried all these sangomas already but things are tough. But it's not like they will stop because it's part of football. One day things will work out and turn their fortunes around. It works with luck as well. But trying they have," the source told Soccer Laduma.

A second insider explained that the coaching staff's attitudes towards such practices can influence their implementation, considering that now Tunisian mentor Nasreddine Nabi is in charge.

"With some coaches it was easier because they understand the culture but with others it was a tricky situation because their beliefs and culture don't allow it but they have been to many African countries and they have seen it happen before so they could compromise at times though it could be a bit tense and tough. Everyone has to make some sacrifices for the team when they believe that could help though it hasn't so far. You win one or two games then back to bad luck. You see how it works? Then another sangoma will come in, win two or three, they lose again. It becomes a vicious circle that is hard to stop as long as you still believe one day things will go back to normal and start winning trophies again. That's where the team is right now in terms of black magic," the second insider stated.

The last time Amakhosi lifted a trophy was during the 2014/15 PSL season under Stuart Baxter, when they won both the MTN8 and the league title. Since then, the club has struggled to secure silverware. Soccer Laduma sought an official comment from Chiefs, but there was no response at the time of publication.
