It was revealed in this week’s edition of Soccer Laduma that Orlando Pirates could be looking into a swop deal which could see Ajax Cape Town attacker Bantu Mzwakali move to Mayfair with Lehlogonolo Masalesa heading in the opposite direction. Is this a good move?
In my opinion, it won’t be a move we need at this moment in time and here’s why.
When it comes to wingers and attacking midfielders, we are very much sorted and any player who comes in at this moment in those positions will by no means walk into the starting line-up.
Mzwakali can play either as a left winger or as an attacking midfielder. Looking at the left wingers at the club, Thabo Rakhale could possibly be seen as the player who will be given that role in seasons to come.
We know that Mzwakali is a talented individual but I doubt the fans will be happy seeing Rakhale on the bench for yet another season, let alone a new player like Mzwakali coming in and taking what they feel should be Jomo’s spot.
Also, Mpho Makola is currently the player who coach Eric Tinkler prefers as playing behind the striker. Let’s not forget that Makola too can play as a left-winger, this then ultimately cuts Mzwakali’s chances of getting game time at Pirates almost all together.
At the age of 21, he is one of the most talented players at the Urban Warriors but it’s a different ball game joining a big club like Pirates at such a young age when competition for places are already high rife between high profile players.
With that said, do you think Mzwakali to Pirates would be a good move for him?
