When it comes to the transfer window, you can always expect social media to go absolutely crazy and this January was no different. The window is open for a month, and below were the five most tweeted transfer rumours from around the world.
6. Marco Reus – Borussia Dortmund to Bayern Munich
The German’s contract is coming to an end at Borussia Dortmund and there has a lot of speculation that he may join his former teammates Mario Gotze and Robert Lebondowski at the Bavarian giants.
5. Gareth Bale – Real Madrid to Manchester United
The winger has come under fire with the Real Madrid crowd recently and that started spreading rumours that he may want to leave. Manchester United were keen on him last year and so the rumours carried on linking Bale with the Red Devils.
4. Paul Pogba – Juventus to Chelsea
Probably one of the most bizarre rumours that started surfacing this transfer window. Pogba’s agent did confirm he will leave Juventus in the future, and many thought Chelsea and Jose Mourinho would be the perfect fit for him.
3. Mats Hummels – Bourissa Dortmund to Manchester United
The Dortmund captain has been a long term target for Louis van Gaal. However, Hummels said he would not leave his current club, despite them being last in the Bundesliga, and that's about where the deal ended.
2. David de Gea – Manchester United to Real Madrid
The Spanish shot-stopper's contract ends in 2016, and with Iker Casillas getting older, De Gea seems to be the perfect replacement for him. De Gea’s agent has fuelled the transfer talks even more throughout the window, but nothing materialised.
1. Lionel Messi – Barcelona to Chelsea
The Barcelona striker had a bit of a fall out with coach Luis Enrique and rumours quickly spread that he was unhappy at the Catalan club. Chelsea were the first club to be linked with him, and the rumours went crazy when Messi followed the club and some of its players on his social media accounts.
