With Real Madrid’s Cristiano Ronaldo racing to 40 goals in a Spanish La Liga season, many South African football fans may wonder if we will ever see a player achieve similar achievements in the Premier Soccer League.
It’s a fact that the PSL has seen a famine of goals in the last couple of years or so, despite the increase in goals as compared to last season for individual players.
We cannot help but point back to the fact that last season, Kaizer Chiefs striker Bernard Parker won the top goal scorers medal after scoring 10 goals in the Absa Premiership. It’s like an ear worm to many football fans and we can only dream of seeing a player scoring at will in the league.
Let’s not take away the issue of fans being thoroughly entertained by the likes of Orlando Pirates winger Thabo Rakhale, Kaizer Chiefs’ Reneilwe Letsholonyane and Pirates' star man Oupa 'Ace' Manyisa.
Yes, we have the flair but that special ingredient to all-round, world class football is still missing. We don’t know when or how it will be added, but the lack of goals makes our Kasi Flavour a tad less flavourful.
I feel that the one has to go with the other, what’s entertaining football without goals and what are goals without entertaining football?
Do you agree?
