Manchester United have announced a high-profile departure following the arrival of new manager Ruben Amorim.

On Monday, the Red Devils officially welcomed the 39-year-old Portuguese tactician to the club after he agreed to a two-and-a-half-year deal in England.

Amorim's first match in charge will be when United take on Ipswich Town in the Premier League away from home on 24 November.

The promising head coach permanently replaces the recently sacked Erik ten Hag, after Ruud van Nistelrooy oversaw four games as interim manager.

While the latter had ambitions of staying on as part of Amorim's staff, United confirmed the Dutchman has bid farewell to the 20-time English champions.

"Manchester United can confirm that Ruud van Nistelrooy has left the club. Ruud rejoined in the summer and has taken charge of the team for the past four matches as interim head coach," a statement on the club's website confirmed.

"Ruud is, and always will be, a Manchester United legend.

"We are grateful for his contribution and the way in which he has approached his role throughout his time with the club.

"He will always be very welcome at Old Trafford. René Hake, Jelle ten Rouwelaar and Pieter Morel have also departed, and we wish them all well for the future."

Van Nistelrooy won three of his four matches in his interim spell on the sidelines, as the team scored 11 goals and conceded only three times.

The 48-year-old returned to United at the start of this season to work as an assistant to Ten Hag but took over the reins after his compatriot was dismissed last month.
