Despite going without a team for the better part of the last five months, Itumeleng Khune has not ruled out the possibility of returning to the Betway Premiership again.

At 37 Khune is three years short of his goal to play until the age of 40 like his idols Gianluigi Buffon and Essam El-Hadary.

The Ventersdorp native says he was shocked by Chiefs' decision not to renew his contract upon its expiry in June this year, which has left him in limbo as to whether he would continue playing football or not.

But Khune says he is weighing up his options, which includes a possible return to the field.

"You are never prepared for such things when they do happen," Khune told journalists at the announcement of his partnership with TopBet in Bryanston.

"You know, we have this mentality that it won't happen to me. Like I've been saying that I want to play until I'm 40 plus and I've used references. I've used El Hadary from Egypt. I've used Buffon from Italy and there's still in our own league, we have Denis Onyango and Washington Arubi, hence I'm saying I'm not writing anything off.

"It's still possible, I still love the game. I'm still passionate about the game, hence I'm keeping myself fit. I'm playing indoor soccer. I'm playing five aside to keep myself fit in case something comes up. I cannot predict the future. I don't know what will come up, but I have to always be ready," he said.
