This season, the English Premier League is shaping up to be the tightest it has been in years, and not only in terms of who lifts the trophy, but also who avoids relegation, as well as who qualifies for a place in Europe.
The Fan Park crew asks if the EPL is proving to be the strongest league in the world, despite some saying that La Liga is the best.
It can be argued that Chelsea are running away with the title, as they currently sit six points clear of Manchester City, while they still have a game in hand, but between Manuel Pellegrini’s men and seventh-placed Tottenham, there is only a margin of eight points.
In the German Bundesliga, first-placed Bayern Munich are currently 11 points clear of Wolfsburg, who are themselves nine points clear of third-placed Borussia Mönchengladbach.
On the weekend, Burnley dented City’s title hopes with their 1-0 win over the Champions, and put themselves a step closer to moving out of the relegation zone. It just goes to show that in the Premier League, anybody can win on the day!
At the lower end of the table, there is only 12 points separating 15th -placed Hull City and last-placed Leicester. Where do you see this in any other league?
Another point that we’ll make sure to make, is that the third and fourth top scorers in the EPL, are English forwards, Harry Kane on 16 for Tottenham, and Charlie Austin on 15 for QPR – a side that are second last in the table.
In La Liga, there’s only one Spanish born citizen who has surpassed the 10 goal mark, while in England there are five – with Wayne Rooney, Saido Berahino and Danny Ings making up the mentioned number.
There’s no doubt that the league will go down to the very last day, with teams now preparing for the final stretch!
