The acquisition of Sibusiso Vilakazi means Mamelodi Sundowns now have three players who have won the most prestigious individual award in the PSL.
Khama Billiat is the reigning Footballer of the Season, while Vilakazi and Teko Modise are former holders of the accolade, which is given to the most outstanding player in all competitions.
Let's take a look at the winners at Sundowns.
Modise won back-to-back awards in the 2007-08 and 2008-09 seasons, when he was still an Orlando Pirates player. "The Navigator", as Modise is fondly known in football circles, was at the prime of his career during those campaigns. The midfield maestro's career is now winding down but he still has the ability to pull the strings in the centre of midfield.
"Vila" won the award in the 2013-14 campaign, after the former Bidvest Wits star enjoyed a great season with the Braamfontein-based outfit. However, he failed to replicate that form the following term. Perhaps the move to Sundowns is a much-needed catalyst.
The Zimbabwean has been simply outstanding. So good have his performances that he has attracted a lot of interest, both on the continent and from Europe. African giants Al Ahly are said to be very keen on adding the diminutive midfielder to their playing roster. Everything the reigning Footballer of the Season touches seems to be turning to gold.
Do you think Sundowns have the best midfield in the country?
