Kaizer Chiefs captain Tefu Mashamaite is yet to extend his stay at the club as contract negotiations drag on - with his deal coming to an end at the close of the current Absa Premiership campaign.
There are many snares in such a scenario, as Chiefs run the risk of losing yet another one of their star men because of waiting too long to deal with contract negotiations. Though it could be a case of both parties not yet agreeing terms, and it doesn’t necessarily mean Chiefs want to get rid of the player.
Here is one concern though - former striker Kingston Nkhatha was lost in a similar way. Nkhatha was playing well and most likely wanted to stay at the club despite his deal running down at the end of the season. Negotiations dragged on because the player reportedly wanted a longer contract, with Chiefs only offering Nkhatha a one year extension.
Along came SuperSport United, met the demands of the player and signed for the club in the January transfer window.
At the moment, Masha is allowed to negotiate with any other club and possibly sign a pre-contract if terms aren’t met between Masha and Chiefs. He has been one of Chiefs' best players this season and it would make sense if a deal was concluded soon - however, that has not been the case.
Do you think Chiefs should speed up Masha’s contract negotiations?
