Inside Chiefs: Chivaviro Could Lose His Place To Du Preez

POLOKWANE, SOUTH AFRICA - OCTOBER 30: Ranga Chivaviro of Kazier Chiefs arrive with the bus prior to the Betway Premiership match between Magesi FC and Kaizer Chiefs at New Peter Mokaba Stadium on October 30, 2024 in Polokwane, South Africa. (Photo by Philip Maeta/Gallo Images)

The Kaizer Chiefs technical team is understood to be concerned about the form of Ranga Chivaviro, and the Siya has a look at where the striker stands going forward.

Insiders at the club, privy to information, have indicated that the coach and his technical team may have discussed giving other strikers a shot upfront.

Ashley Du Preez could be given a chance ahead of Chivaviro if the latter player's current form does not improve. The sources added that despite having a relatively good start to the new season under coach Nasreddine Nabi, Chivaviro may not be guaranteed a starting berth.

"They feel they have given him enough chances to prove himself and in most games he hasn't lived up to those expectations. That's why now they have advised him to pull his socks up or lose his starting berth. They are looking at giving Ashley Du Preez the chance to start some games alongside Wandile Duba and see if there will be a change," said the Siya source.

"At training he does very well and that's why they start with him but things are not the same during games and it's costing the team hence the need to give another striker a chance to prove himself while Ranga works on his finishing," the source added.

A second source stated that despite this predicament, it won't disturb the talks about Chivaviro's contract as the club is still looking at renewing it.

"There are two different issues. This could just be temporary because of the pressure he has to continue scoring while as for the new contract the club is happy to give him a new deal. So he just has to prove to them that he deserves it when given the chance to play, whether he starts or not," said the second Siya source.

"But for now they want him to pull up his socks or let someone be in the starting line-up to help the team. They believe that if they can score goals they will have at least solved one problem. For now they feel that's where they are lacking to win more games," the second source added.

So far, Chivaviro has at least started the campaign better than last season, though fans have been critical of him missing opportunities at times.

Soccer Laduma contacted Chiefs for comment, but there was no response at the time of publishing.
