The Fan Park Crew takes a look at some top African stars and discusses the possibilities of them leaving their current clubs, based on what we’ve seen and heard.
Yaya Toure – Manchester City
It’s recently been reported that the Ivorian may be on his way out of Manchester City at the end of the season, and it’s looking like Inter Milan may be Yaya’s destination. Roberto Mancini has declared his interested in reuniting with the 31-year-old, but with two years remaining on his contract, the deal won’t be a cheap one.
Seydou Doumbia – AS Roma
The Ivorian has been called one of the worst deals of January, and since joining AS Roma as the start of the New Year, he has only managed three appearances for the Italian club - where he has failed to score a single goal. Roma may want to offload the striker, who joined the club with an impressive goal scoring record, but his future in Italy remains unknown.
Kolo Toure – Liverpool
Like his younger brother, Kolo may also be another African player who could move clubs at the end of this season. He’s struggled to break into Brendan Rodgers’ first XI recently. It’s been said that the defender is considering his options, after reports that Liverpool are looking to give him a year extension at the club. The 33-year-old’s reason for a move away from Liverpool may be for more first team football.
Odion Ighalo – Watford
The Nigerian forward has been in great form for Watford in the English Championship, capturing the attention of various clubs in Europe. The former Granada and Udinese striker has scored 17 goals this season, and a move has become increasingly likely.
Christian Atsu – Chelsea (On Loan at Everton)
The Ghanaian winger, who was voted as player of the tournament at the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations, may be looking to leave Chelsea on a permanent deal. He has failed to impress Roberto Martinez at Everton, sitting on the sidelines for most of the season, but the 23-year-old’s talent may lure several clubs to bid for his services.
