The story

The decorated, multi-league winning coach, Gavin Hunt seems ready to move past the dream of getting another opportunity at coaching one of the PSL's big three clubs.

Gavin Hunt did miss a once-in-a-lifetime chance to succeed at a major club during his unsuccessful spell at Kaizer Chiefs, a stint will likely haunt him for the rest of his career.

Chiefs appointed Hunt in September 2020 on a three-year contract and succeeded Ernst Middendorp. Despite guiding Chiefs to their first-ever CAF Champions League semi-final, results in domestic competitions remained inconsistent, leading to his dismissal after only managing only 12 wins, 17 draws, and 15 losses in 44 matches.

In the past, Hunt has bemoaned his Chiefs dismissal, mentioning that he was prematurely let go, especially due to his efforts on the African continent with the Glamour Boys, who were under a transfer ban during Hunt's reign.

During a podcast interview on Smash Sports with Morena Mothupi — Hunt was asked if he deserves another opportunity to coach either one of Pirates, Downs or Chiefs again, to which he answered:

"I think I'm passed that. I think I need to go to the national team. If you're going to make me the boss, then I must be the boss. I can't go there [any big three club] and not be the boss. In the national team, I can be the boss, I can do what I want. I'm older now and for me to go there [any big three club], I've got more chance of winning that's for sure. You've got everything behind you, the finance, the supporters, so you have more chance of winning.

"For me, [I would] rather go straight to where I feel [I need to be at]. I need a crack at that," added Hunt.
