Ola Brazilians! I have just been told a wonderful story that I have to share with you. It is a humbling and touching story about Hlompho Kekana… I bet you would never have guessed it!
Kekana was brought up in a small Limpopo town called Zebediela, where he used to play football barefoot and on the rough turf of gravel, but what makes this story interesting is that used to play with his mom's bread money.
What he and his friends used to do is that they tallied in all the coins their families had saved for bread and bet it on the game they were playing next against opposition.
If they happened to lose the game, him and his friends would be in big trouble, as the family had no money for bread or food. However, if they came out triumphant, they would use the extra money to spend on sweets.
Apparently, Kekana's hunger and desire to not loose the game in order to feed his family is what made him more disciplined and passionate in his approach to the game.
He knew what was at stake if they lost, so he developed an unwavering determination to succeed.
This is why we can so often see him filled with so much emotion when he plays, and when he won the league with SuperSport United too.
He burst out crying not because of the success, but because of what it meant to him knowing he was part of a team that got relegated the year before with Black Leopards.
This is a sweet and touching story that warmed my heart. Hope it has done that to yours too…
