Back in 2009, during Itumeleng Khune's birthday month, the PSL veteran produced one of the finest moments of his career in stopping Spanish great, David Villa from getting past him. Check it out!
What's the story?
For years, the Kaizer Chiefs star has been regarded as one of the country's finest shot-stoppers, with fans even considering Khune as the best goalkeeper to have ever been produced in South Africa.
While Itu was a consistent performer for Chiefs throughout his career, the 33-year-old kept the same energy when it came to representing Bafana Bafana.
Confederation Cup Memories
In 2009, ahead of the 2020 FIFA World Cup, South Africa welcomed some of the world's top national teams as part of the Confederations Cup showpiece.
The tournament was held in June, which happened to be Khune's birthday month and on his special day, South Africa faced Spain, who eventually went on to become world champions the following year.
Khune's Gift
In the 50th minute of the game, Spain was awarded a penalty with David Villa stepping up to take the spot-kick. At the time, Villa was one of Europe's most prolific goal scorers as he went on to become the Spanish national team all-time leading scorer.
Staring into the Spanish great's eyes, Khune managed to save Villa's penalty spectacularly as he gave the adoring fans in the stadium a gift from himself on his birthday.
