TBT- When J.C Were Pirates Feeder Team

Hello fellow Buccaneers! There is something about Throwback Thursday that leaves me pondering about the past… And on that topic, do you remember when Jomo Cosmos were our supposed 'feeder' team?

Today, we are known as Golden Arrows' feeder club as a lot of their squad players are actually owned by our beloved Orlando Pirates, but back in 1999, Cosmos were dubbed our local suppliers.

Mark Fish was a name that went from Cosmos to Pirates, along with several others in the shape of Di Giovampaolo (GK), Eugene Zwane, Helman Mkhalele, Innocent Mncwango, Tony Caetano, Mark Fish, Sammy Troughton.

Interestingly, in 1983 Jomo did a deal with Pirates whereby Andrew Phiri, Toy Ramosa and Julius Sono (his brother) joined Cosmos.

One player, Vusi Mncwanga, also made the move from the Ezenkhosi and in an interview with Soccer Laduma back in April 1999; 'Mabhece' spoke about the link between the two clubs.

"The link between Pirates and Cosmos? I really don't know, but I think it's an open secret that Jomo has an eye for spotting talented youngsters. He has a special way of grooming youngsters who will become future stars. The other thing is that he knows how to create friendship between him and his players," said Mncwanga.

But when asked about why Cosmos never sold players to Chiefs, the Ntuzuma-born player said: "I can't comment on that, I can only speak for myself. I always wanted to play for Pirates, I have never wanted to go to other teams. I 'm the one who approached Homo and told him that I needed a change. Even before I told him, he sent me overseas for trails, but I failed. I think now is the time for me to prove that I belong in a big team."

As expected, Mncwanga remained very coy on the strong bond Jomo Sono created with Pirates.

Who was your favourite Cosmos to Pirates transfer?
