It has been confirmed that Kaizer Chiefs are about to part ways with former assistant coach Doctor Khumalo, and it is a move that will leave many sad. But are there good and bad outcomes that can be taken from his exit?
The Glamour Boys' management are expected to make the big announcement sometime within the next few days, and if "Doc" actually does land up leaving, it will end their long-term relationship.
Not to fret, though, there is a light at the end of the tunnel for the former Amakhosi midfielder.
Pros To Doc's Exit
For many years, Doctor was never given a chance to be named Chiefs' head coach. He stood in as an interim manager and, on many occasion, an assistant. Sadly, despite the calls from the stands, Kaizer Motaung Senior never saw Khumalo fit to lead the Glamour Boys' first team, and he was never given the ultimate vote of confidence. The 50-year-old has repeatedly declared himself fit to lead a first team in the PSL, and with him now becoming a "free agent", he can find a club that is willing to put their trust in him.
Cons To Doc's Exit
In light of the news, Chiefs' biggest worry is how the fans will react to having lost a legend and icon of the club. For years, Doc has been idolised by the Khosi faithful, and with him set to leave, his exit may not go down well with the supporters, who have grown increasingly frustrated at the club for their lack of marquee signings, among other things.
There's no doubt about it, "16 valve" is one of the most loved and educated former players out there, and could walk into most clubs easily. It's a shame that things have ended this way, even though the reasons are not yet known.
Do you think Chiefs are making a mistake in letting Doc go?
