In honour of Senzo Meyiwa's death, the Fan Park has taken the time to reflect on some of the shot-stopper's greatest moments when in goal for Pirates!
In the goals
After breaking through into regular football last season, Meyiwa excelled and grabbed the opportunity with both hands. He commanded the number one jersey with honour and precision, and there is no questioning how crucial his saves have been for both club and country.
CAF Champions League Penalty Stops
Meyiwa made the name for himself when he famously pulled off a number of penalty saves in the CAF Champions League to help the Buccaneers qualify for the final of the competition.
Bafana Bafana Clean sheets
Meyiwa was put into the Bafana Bafana goals in absence of Itumeleng Khune, and he took to the national team duties like a duck to water. In his six appearances for our national team, Meyiwa has kept five clean sheets to better even Khune's stats in goal.
His Celebrations
While this may not be a moment that has contributed to his game, Meyiwa was famous for his celebrations, dances and smiles during Pirates' victories and cup wins. He will forever be remembered for his runs up the field with his arms spread out wide.
His Comedic Attitude
What made Meyiwa special was not only his abilities on the field, but his overall attitude and colourful life. He was known as the class clown in the group and was always famous for his joking demeanor… One just has to take a look at his tweets to get a sense of his fun nature.
What are your great memories of Meyiwa?
