Retired Portuguese and Real Madrid legend takes the air to break an unconventional world record playing football.

Check it out!

What's the story?

Luis Figo is enjoying life deep into his retirement and was involved in an unusual game of football recently.

Working with Mastercard, Figo took part in a match with no gravity travelling at record-breaking altitude.

He joins a list of football's biggest names that have Guinness World Records.

What makes football special is that it can be played on almost any surface and environment possible, just as long as you have a ball.

Mastercard took it to a completely different level by organising a four-a-side match on a travelling aircraft played at an altitude of 20 230 feet (Over 6 166 meters) in zero gravity conditions.

As per ESPN, the match was played in a specially constructed pitch built in the plane that flew in up-and-down routes that reproduces the effect of zero gravity.

With minimal control of his bodily movements, Figo was still able to score and connect a mean volley:

Figo and his teammates are now Guinness World Record holders for the Highest Altitude Game of Football on a Parabolic Flight.

Although a Guinness World Record isn't as impressive as being a Balon D'or winner, Figo still joins an elite list of football figures with World Records.

PSG's Lionel Messi, Barcelona's Robert Lewandowski and Man United's Cristiano Ronaldo all possess Guinness World Records.
