What's the story?
Yesterday, the Chloorkop-based side displayed their new playing strips for this 2021/22 campaign, causing a great stir online among supporters and rivals.
The Brazilians are one of the last clubs in the PSL to showcase their new threads, having kept their fans waiting in anticipation to see their new jerseys.
The new features?
The new kit comes with the slogan "OUR RISE IS LIMITLESS!" and features "a unique traditional hand-printed treatment inspired by African art and fashion," according to PUMA.
With regards to the kit's hue, yellow remains the base colour for the home kit while the away kit continues in its blue theme.
The design for the new gear is very different from last season as the new jersey contains patterns that are reminiscent of rivers, deserts and mountains which are easier to identify in the away threads with each individual element becoming more clear on a blue background.
Inspiration for new kits
Mamelodi Sundowns spokesperson Alex Shakoane spoke about the design on the club's official website, "Looking at the individual elements on the design, they depict the rivers, deserts and mountain ranges found all the way from the North right through to the South."
"The launch of this unique shirt marks the 5th year anniversary of Mamelodi Sundowns' CAF Champions League victory; it represents the club's ambitions to become the best Football Club on the continent and share our African artistry with the world."
