When Neymar made the switch from Barcelona to PSG recently, it sent shockwaves through the footballing world. But is this the real reason why he left? Let's take a look.
It's a question that has been asked many times: "Why would Neymar want to leave Barcelona?" Things seemed to be going well for the young Brazilian in Spain. Alongside good friends Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez, he accounted for a third of arguably the most lethal attack force in the world. So a few weeks ago, when he decided to jump ship for the incredible amount of R3.4 billion, it left a lot of people scratching their heads.
There were reports of a fallout between club management and the star, and some even said that Neymar may have left because of Lionel Messi. If you look closely at the star's social media activity, however, you may find that the answer is not as sinister some believe.
The Brazilian constituency at PSG is strong, with players such as Thiago Silva, Marquinhos and Dani Alves. This may have been what swayed the striker to join the club as he is very good friends, in particular, with Silva and former Barca teammate Alves. Neymar's Instagram is loaded with videos of himself and his "Brazukas" dancing, singing and playing games.
While the current situation in Catalonia may be headed towards catastrophe, it seems as though Neymar is having the time of his life.
Do you think Neymar leaving Barcelona to seemingly join his friends at PSG was a good idea?
