On Sunday, Real Madrid Castilla coach, Zinedine Zidane, decided to call up his son, Enzo, for the match against Conquense in the third tier of Spanish football, but can he become as good as his father?
Over the summer, Enzo Fernandez (as he is known) trained with the reserve team, but he has still been a Real Madrid C player on an official basis up until now.
If you'd like to see what Enzo looks like in action, you can take a look at this video compilation of his skills in the 2013/14 season here.
In the C team, Enzo plays as an attacking midfielder or as a 'false nine' occasionally, and like his father before him, he is technically gifted and can pick a pass…
He is eligible to play for France, Spain and Algeria, having represented Spain at U15 level and France at U19 level. However, it seems unlikely that Enzo will ever make those teams, because at 19, he isn't showing any signs of being as good as his father or anything close to that.
In 11 appearances for Real Madrid C, he has scored just one goal and he hasn't really impressed. He's certainly not a bad player, and he'll make it as a professional, but for him to follow a career of the magnitude that his father did is certainly out of the question.
You will be pleased, however, to discover that Enzo has three younger brothers, Luca, Theo and Elyaz, who are all part of Real Madrid's Youth Academy. Theo, who plays as a goalkeeper, has the most promise in terms of a successful career, and he could be the next Real Madrid superstar.
Hopefully, with his promotion to Castilla, and under his father's tutelage, Enzo will be able to grow as a footballer and become a club legend, just like his father was.
