Former Golden Arrows Player Lambastes KZN Teams

Former Golden Arrows Player Lambastes KZN Teams

Former Golden Arrows and Manning Rangers midfielder Sheldon Roux has lambasted KwaZulu-Natal-based teams for snubbing qualified coaches in the region. Do you agree with him?

Roux was the head coach of AmaZulu's development side Durban Warriors before the affiliated ABC Motsepe side was sold.

"I was the head coach of the team's development team and I was earmarked to coach the MultiChoice Diski Challenge team, but the senior side got relegated and the side I was coaching got sold, and that's how I lost my job," a seemingly exasperated Roux said.

"I'm not happy with the way KZN teams do things… AmaZulu are supposed to be a big club but are being run like an amateur team. They overlook qualified coaches in the region and opt for inexperienced coaches from other provinces.

"AmaZulu hired an inexperienced young 'white boy' from Gauteng to coach the club's U17 team when suitable coaches like Musa Mtakwende (former AmaZulu and Kaizer Chiefs defender) are unemployed.

"What are the youngsters going to learn when their coach is also learning? When you watch AmaZulu juniors play, you ask yourself: 'Are they are really AmaZulu players?' because they lack technical and tactical awareness…

"The same thing is happening at Maritzburg United and Golden Arrows… How can Kanu (Vusi Vilakazi) be the MDC coach and also be the PRO? Winning a development league doesn't automatically make you a good coach.

"We need suitably qualified coaches! At least Delron Buckley has international experience, but AmaZulu's technical director has no qualifications and has never played football."

Roux went on to say that something big is in the pipeline for him.

"I'm in touch with guys from Ukraine," he added.

"They are going to set up an academy. They're still searching for a venue. Once we get started, we will show teams like AmaZulu a thing or two.

"The way things are at AmaZulu, I don't see them getting promoted in the next three years."
