Fergie s High-Profile Fallouts With Players

Fergie s High-Profile Fallouts With Players

Sir Alex Ferguson had fallouts with some of the biggest names in football, proving time and time again that no player was bigger than the team. The fans would voice their disappointment, but Fergie never seemed to budge on the matter. The Fan Park crew had a look at some of Fergie's biggest fallouts.

David Beckham

Becks was perhaps one of the most adored players at Manchester United. After a loss to Arsenal in the FA Cup, Ferguson gave a team talk that nobody will forget. The Scotsman kicked a boot out of frustration and it struck Becks in the face. The relationship between the two was never resolved, and Beckham later made a move to Real Madrid. Beckham was loved, but Fergie was Manchester United!

Ruud Van Nistelrooy

The flying-Dutchman was the most prolific goal-scorer at Manchester United since the days of Denis Law. He scored 150 goals in 219 games at United, but to Ferguson, nobody was bigger than the team. The pair fellout over claims that the forward swore at him, marking the end of a memorable career at United for Van Nistelrooy. He was left on the bench for a few games before heading to Real Madrid. United won the league the following season.

Jaap Stam

The towering Dutch defender made the mistake of crossing Fergie's path, saying a few nasty about his Manchester United coach. Much to the dismay of the fans, Stam was sold to Lazio in no time.

Roy Keane

Arguably one of Manchester United's best ever captains, Roy Keane was another legend who butted heads with the tyrant-like Fergie. The two had a father and son relationship, but Keane's influence started growing in the team's dressing room, and before his following was too big, Fergie ended the hard-midfielder's stay by selling him to Celtic in 2005.
