Barca Spotlight Mzansi’s Coolest Amapiano Stars

Barca Spotlight Mzansi’s Coolest Amapiano Stars

FC Barcelona and Spotify have spotlighted Amapiano stars Ch'cco and Pabi Cooper.

FC Barcelona took to social media to show their appreciation for two of Mzansi's promising Amapiano acts. Check it out!

What's the story?

As part of a paid partnership with their sponsor Spotify, FC Barcelona showed some love to African musicians who are proud Culers (FC Barcelona supporters).

Two of those African musicians are from South Africa, namely Pabi Cooper and Ch'cco, two young Amapiano stars who've helped propel the genre beyond South Africa's borders.

Ch'cco and Pabi Cooper, who have more than 600 000 monthly listeners altogether and millions of streams for their biggest hits, were posted on FC Barcelona's Instagram page.

Barca were spotlighting some of Africa's biggest musical talents who also happen to support the club. Pabi Cooper and Ch'cco were posted alongside Nigerian stars Eziokwu and Teni.

The Blaugrana rated these aforementioned musos as some of the best African artists, which spiked the excitement of Ch'cco and Pabi who were elated to be platformed by one of the biggest football clubs in the world.

Pabi Cooper's football-inspired hit "Banyana ke Bafana", that also features Ch'cco has been streamed over 4 million times on Spotify, with the latter's 2021 smash hit "Nkao Tempela" touching over 8 million streams.

Those numbers may pale in comparison to the likes of Drake and Rosalia, two international artists who've featured on Barca's home jersey last season for their streaming feats, but it highlights just how much these two Amapiano stars have achieved so far in their careers.

When Barca and Spotify came together for a reported R5.9 million partnership in 2022 for a long-term deal, the two brands have made it their mission to blend the amazing worlds of football and music.

Along with earning naming rights to the iconic Camp Nou stadium Spotify said it would also use the sponsorship to promote musicians, it's good to see that South African musicians are also part of the conversation.
