The story
Legendary Kaizer Chiefs goalkeeper Brian Baloyi got candid about his career between the sticks with Kaizer Chiefs, Mamelodi Sundowns and Bafana Bafana.
Speaking on "Podcast and Chill" with podcaster MacGuyver "MacG" Mukwevho and Sol Phenduka, 'Spider' revealed some entertaining stories from him and his teammate's shenanigans off the field.
During the "Martell: The Truth" segment on the podcast, where Baloyi had to answer as truthfully as he can to questions asked by host, MacG.
When asked if he's ever dated anyone in the entertainment industry that no one knows about, the coy Baloyi wouldn't reveal his mystery ex before quickly pointing out that he's been with his wife since 1999.
"Obviously being one of the biggest players at Chiefs, rolling with Doctor Khumalo, with Doc, myself and Thabo [Mooki], after the games we wanted to be around him for the entertainment.
"After the games at Jo'burg Stadium, we would go out and have a 20-car convoy with your Lindelani Mkhize's, you name them! I was friends with Boom Shaka, with Theo and them. I was friends with Trompies, Thebe and back then they would ask me to be in videos and I would refuse," shared Baloyi on his proximity to famous personalities in Johannesburg in the 90's.
Baloyi named Mark Fish as the wildest teammate to party with, also naming Peter Ndlovu as someone who loved the clubs despite not being a drinker.
"It happens to all of us, to the best of us. As human beings, we learn through experiences," noted Baloyi when asked if he's ever faced financial difficulties as a footballer.
"When you follow where footballers come from, they come from rural communities and townships. Today, it's changing. I must say, I'm proud of the current generation, they're doing much better [financially], and the generation that's retiring, is doing much better when approaching business opportunities," added the SA goalkeeping legend.
Baloyi also revealed his biggest regret during his playing days, stating, "I would it's not being firm enough to push for a move overseas. When I look back, in hindsight, I could have played there [overseas]," with the 50-year-old saying his dream European club as a player was Liverpool.
