The story

Former Bafana Bafana striker Benni McCarthy is Kenya's new head coach, as announced by the Football Kenya Federation (FKF) on Monday.

Before his big reveal, McCarthy revealed in his chat with Thabiso Mosia on Radio 200 on why he does not drink. The legendary striker is part of the #NoExcuse campaign.

Carling Black Label's #NoExcuse campaign seeks to raise awareness about gender-based violence (GBV) in South Africa, with Benni McCarthy joining legends such as Bernard Parker and Happy Jele in adding his voice to the fight against GBV.

By harnessing the power of football, the campaign encourages men to challenge harmful behaviors and take an active role as allies in the fight against GBV.

"In my household, my dad on a Friday and a Saturday, used to like a drink and I used to sometimes see what he does and that's one of the reasons why I don't drink. Because, growing up I used to see and I easily you could snap. It was not the man I wanted to be," explained Benni on the reasons why he doesn't consume alcohol.

The news of McCarthy's move to Kenya follows his departure from Manchester United at the conclusion of last season, where he worked as a first-team coach specializing in strikers under former manager Erik ten Hag.

McCarthy will be supported by former AmaZulu colleagues, Vasili Manousakis (assistant coach), Moneeb Josephs (goalkeeping coach), and Pilela Maposa (performance analyst).

Here's a look at what the FKF president had to say to on Benni's arrival to the East African nation and what Bafana Bafana's all-time leading goal scorer posted on Instagram:
