The 2016 Chan qualification campaign is upon us, with coach Shakes Mashaba having named his squad to get the side to next year's showpiece. With the tournament not being part of the FIFA calendar, Mashaba will have to make use of a second-string national team as most clubs will be reluctant to release some of their most important players.
Here are some of the best players Shakes has chosen for the Chan qualifiers:
Wayne Sandilands
Sandilands may be down the pecking order between the sticks at Mamelodi Sundowns, but he still remains a quality PSL goalkeeper. The former Platinum Stars shot-stopper has been part of the Bafana set-up before and will add a wealth of experience to the young side.
Mario Booysen
Much like Sandilands, Booysen, too, finds himself on the fringes at Chloorkop. The Sundowns central defender had a tough start to his career at the club, despite being called up to the national team. His qualities as a leader of the back four will come in handy, taking into consideration the relatively unknown set of defenders who were called up by Shakes.
Thabo Qalinge
"Section 10", as he is known, is considered one of the star players of the team and could look to the Chan qualifiers to get his season back on track. In spite of the immense talent he possesses, Qalinge has struggled to break into the Orlando Pirates starting XI, but perhaps a run of games with the national team will do him the world of good.
Which other Chan players do you think will do well for Bafana?
