Following Carlo Ancelotti's 15-match winning streak, which is now the longest winning streak in the club's history, shared with his predecessor, Jose Mourinho, we take a look at who has been better at Real Madrid.
Statistically speaking, Ancelotti has been in the dugout for 81 matches at the Spanish club, earning 2.44 points per match, while in Mourinho's 178 matches as Real Madrid manager, his team only secured 2.3 points per match, so it would seem that Ancelotti is the man that is grinding out the best results.
And you may say that Ancelotti has spent a lot of money to get there, but Ancelotti's net spending in this summer gone by was only €8.5 million, while the summer before he spent a net sum of €52 million. This means that his average spending every summer has been €32.5 million.
Under Mourinho, Real Madrid spent a net amount of €0 in 2012/13, €47 million in 2011/12 and €83 million in 2010/11. So Mourinho's average summer spending amounted to €43.33 million, and the Portuguese actually spent more money than his successor.
But what really matters at Real Madrid is silverware and, in little over a year at Real Madrid, Ancelotti has secured three trophies, including the Copa Del Rey, the UEFA Champions League and the UEFA Supercup. Meanwhile, in Mourinho's three years at the club, he managed to win La Liga, the Copa Del Rey and the Spanish Supercup. So Ancelotti has won the same amount of silverware as Mourinho in a third of the time.
To sum it all up, Ancelotti gets better results, spends less money and secures more silverware for Real Madrid, so there is really very little doubt that Ancelotti is the better fit for Los Blancos. But how does his style of play compare?
