Having recently been stripped of the national team captaincy, Neymar limped off after just 21 minutes of their 2-0 victory over Qatar.
The injury means that Neymar will not be involved in Brazil's Copa pursuit after he left the stadium in crutches.
Neymar, who is extremely active on social media, took an optimistic outlook on the injury when he shared snaps of the battered ankle on Instagram.The 27-year-old's heavily tattooed leg is visibly swollen around the ankle.
"After the storm comes the calm," The Paris Saint Germain star wrote in Portuguese.
The recent setback has compounded the Brazilian's woes after he punched a fan a few months ago. He also faces damning rape allegations.
His PSG teammate, Kylian Mbappe has shared a touching message of support to his attack partner.
