FIFA Orders Zim Club To Pay Former PSL Star Over R10 million

FIFA Orders Zim Club To Pay Former PSL Star Over R10 million

A Zimbabwean club is said to have been ordered by FIFA to make a payment of $600,000 (R10.9 million) to a former PSL star.

According to Zimbabwean outlet Herald Online, FIFA has ordered local side Ngezi Platinum to pay former coach Benjani Mwaruwari a staggering R10.9 million for unfair dismissal.

Mwaruwari, who has played for the likes of Jomo Cosmos, Bidvest Wits, and Chippa United, was sacked by Ngezi Platinum in 2023 after 13 games in charge.

Of those 13 games, the former forward won just three, drew six, and lost four matches before he was given his marching orders.

Mwaruwari was left frustrated by his abrupt sacking, prompting him to open a case against the club at FIFA.

This week, the world football governing body is said to have communicated its verdict to both the coach and Ngezi Platinum.

"I have no comment," said Mwaruwari when asked for his reaction to FIFA's decision.

Meanwhile, Mwaruwari is believed to be part of a Premier League coaching initiative.

In April 2024, the ex-Manchester City player joined the Plymouth Argyle academy as part of the initiative, which is designed to support former players aspiring to become coaches.
