Betway Premiership

Result: Kaizer Chiefs 0-0 Cape Town City

Date: 12 March 2025

Venue: FNB Stadium

Coach Nasreddine Nabi made two changes from the win over Stellenbosch over the weekend as Reeve Frosler and Pule Mmodi made way Dillan Solomons and Mduduzi Shabalala, while City gave Thulani Serero his first start in midfield.

Chiefs nearly fell behind inside the opening 10 minutes when Nathan Fasika got on the end of a corner with a close-range header, but Chiefs goalkeeper Bruce Bvuma provided a superb save from point-blank range.

The hosts dominated possession thereafter but struggled to carve out any clear-cut chances in the 18-yard area, with Shabalala and Nkosingiphile Ngcobo trying their luck from distance without seriously troubling Darren Keet.

Chiefs should have taken the lead shortly before the interval when Mduduzi Shabalala intercepted Fasika's poor pass to go clear on goal, but the attacker sent his effort wide of the mark with only Keet to beat from six yards out.

The home side went even closer shortly after the halftime break, as Makabi Lilepo was given time and space outside the box and sent a curling strike crashing against the crossbar with Keet well beaten.

Coach Nabi made a triple change after the hour mark as Ranga Chivaviro, Frosler and Mfundo Vilakazi replaced Ashley du Preez, Solomons and Gaston Sirino to refresh the attack for the final 30 minutes.

The Chiefs substitutes nearly got the opener for with 13 minutes left on the clock as Mmodi carved out some space to pick out Chivaviro in the box, but the striker was unable to keep his header on target.

The hosts threw bodies forward in search of the winning goal but City remained resolute to hold on for a point on the road.
