Kaizer Chiefs are exploring various additional options to bolster their squad for next season, and now they are also looking at improving their midfield, the Siya crew understands.

Insiders at the club have indicated that Chiefs have renewed their interest in a Europe-based player.

As previously reported by Soccer Laduma, Amakhosi had already shown interest in signing Gil Vicente player Sphephelo "Yaya" Sithole.

Now, sources at Chiefs with reliable information have indicated that Sithole is back on their radar.

"The coach has apparently noticed that signing players from rival teams locally is very difficult and that's why they want to see if they can get players from outside South Africa. Of course the club is still to get the players they need locally but if they can't then they will go outside the country and that's why they have reignited their interest in Yaya. He is actually back on their radar. They believe he can complement the team very well with the current midfielders of (Gaston) Sirino, (Mdu) Shabalala, (Ox) Mthethwa, (Thabo) Cele, (Yusuf) Maart and even (Edson) Castillo. So, they will be looking at how they can bring him in now," the Siya source stated.

A second source stated that to accommodate Sithole, Amakhosi are considering releasing midfielders.

"It's a work in progress. They are building and they are working on letting other midfielders go while bringing in the ones they believe will help the team going forward from next season and one of the ones they are looking at bringing in is Sphephelo Sithole. They have been monitoring him for some time now and they are convinced he can fit into the team system," the second source stated.

Sithole is currently with Portuguese side Gil Vicente, on loan from Liga 2 side CD Tondela. The 26-year-old had impressed with Bafana Bafana in 2024, though he recently suffered an injury while on national team duty.

This publication reached out to Chiefs for comment, but there was no response at the time of preparing this story.
