Manqoba Announced At PSL Club

Golden Arrows have made a coaching change, bringing in a man who has led them to their only major title in PSL topflight history.

The club confirmed the return of Manqoba Mngqithi, who left Mamelodi Sundowns in December following a shaky start to the season which saw him losing out to Magesi FC in the Carling Knockout final.

Mngqithi's agent Mike Makaab had revealed that the coach was not in a rush to take up a new job after leaving Sundowns, but he is back in the hot seat at a Betway Premiership club and has the task of leading 11th-placed Arrows back into the top eight.

The 53-year-old Mngqithi started his professional coaching career with Abafana'besthende in 2007 and went onto to win the MTN8 after getting an opportunity to be the head coach. Arrows hammered Ajax Cape Town 6-0 in the final, recording their first and only major title in the topflight.

He left Arrows to coach at AmaZulu and Chippa United and returned for a brief spell at Arrows in 2012 before joining Sundowns in 2013. With Sundowns, Mngqithi won it all domestically and on the continent, and was able to work as an assistant, co-coach and head coach during his 11-year stay at Chloorkop.

Mngqithi takes over from Musa Bilankulu and Kagisho Dikgacoi, who have been at the helm for about two months now since the departure of Mabhuti Khanyeza. Bilankulu and Dikgacoi did well to get a few good results, but had been struggling recently, which led to the change. The duo will be working under Mngqithi in the technical and will have the opportunity to learn from the experienced mentor.
