The story

South African brands just can't stay away from Lucas Radebe, who recently added the JSE as one of his many ambassadorial roles.

The JSE launched its "Claim It" campaign on Monday, encouraging South Africans to check if they are eligible for a share of the R4.5 billion in unclaimed dividends.

To raise awareness, the JSE has appointed the former Leeds United and Kaizer Chiefs captain as the campaign's ambassador.

Known not only for his legendary football career but also for his charitable efforts through his foundation, Radebe is seen as someone who embodies the values of integrity and inclusivity, making him the perfect fit for this campaign.

The initiative is a joint effort between the JSE and several of its largest listed companies, focused on redistributing unclaimed dividends to their rightful recipients.

With access to nineteen issuer share registries, the JSE aims to reconnect nearly 375,000 former employees, shareholders, and beneficiaries of deceased estates with their unclaimed funds.

"There are various factors that contribute to people not knowing that they have unclaimed dividends owed to them. These include people changing jobs, moving homes to a new address or updating banking information without notifying listed companies.

"This, in turn, has made it difficult to verify beneficiaries, delaying the distribution of unclaimed funds," reads a statement on the JSE's website, explaining the inspiration behind this initiative.
