What Pirates Offered Ndlozi In Breakthrough Season

What Pirates Offered Ndlozi In Breakthrough Season

DURBAN, SOUTH AFRICA - JANUARY 26: Ndlozi Siyabonga of Orlando Pirates and Patrick Maswanganyi of Orlando Pirates celebrating after the third goal was scored during the Nedbank Cup, Last 32 match between Richards Bay and Orlando Pirates at King Zwelithini Stadium on January 26, 2025 in Durban, South Africa.

As part of his remarkable work at Orlando Pirates, Jose Riveiro has unearthed another star in Siyabonga Ndlozi who has made the step up to the first team, and the Siya crew has learnt what the future holds for the young defender.

Ndlozi has been making the Pirates matchday squads in recent games, including in the Soweto derby against Kaizer Chiefs last weekend and last night's 2-1 victory over Sekhukhune United although he was an unused substitute in both matches.

The 22-year-old right-back, who made his Pirates first team debut against Egyptian giants Al Ahly last month, is understood to have impressed Riveiro with his work-rate and is now in with a chance to contribute more at the Soweto giants in the coming matches in the club's tight schedule in the PSL and CAF Champions League.

Following a journey that has taken him to Golden Arrows and TS Galaxy among the clubs in pursuit of a career in professional football, Ndlozi has finally found a home to make a name for himself at the highest level after being offered a long-term contract at the Buccaneers.

"It's been quite a journey for him (Ndlozi) and it wasn't easy. Last season, he played for Orbit College on loan from Pirates and you would have been doubted if you predicted at the time that he would be in the first team now and competing for a place to be a regular," said the source.

"It's the opportunity that he isn't taking lightly, and he will make sure that he makes good use of it. He knows how difficult it has been for him to make his way to the top and he can't let the opportunity slip away. It is a platform to write his name in the history books of football in the country. The club offered him a three-year contract and he aims to achieve the most out of it. The club believes in him, and he will be supported in every way possible to become one of the top players for seasons to come," the source added.
